Frequently Asked Questions

  • I am an "Out-Of-Network" (OON) provider, which means I do not accept any insurances directly.

If you would like to use your insurance, then I may be able to provide you with a monthly receipt called a "superbill", which you can submit this to your insurance provider for possible reimbursement. I encourage you to call your insurance provider directly and check with them to confirm if you have "Out Of Network" benefits and, if you do, what your reimbursement rate is and what the process for submitting a superbill is.

Otherwise you can choose to see me privately and not involve your insurance at all. Please see below to understand why many of my clients choose this option and why I choose to stay out of network.

  • Many of my clients prefer to work with me privately and not involve their insurance.

This is because in order to use your insurance for therapy, I am required to assign you a mental health diagnosis, which becomes a part of your medical record. Insurance can also put limitations on the number of therapy sessions you can have, prior to truly completing your therapy process.

By not accepting insurance, I am able to maintain a smaller caseload of clientele and devote all of my focus into providing therapy. Instead of using hours each week going back and forth with billing insurance, I can devote that time and energy to my clients, resulting in better outcomes for therapy.

  • A typical 50-minute session fee is $185. 2-hour sessions are billed at $300 and are pro-rated for actual session time. A limited number of sliding scale sessions fees may be available, on a case by case basis.

  • I maintain a fully virtual office, where all sessions are offered through HIPAA-compliant Zoom. In certain circumstances, sessions may occur via telephone.

I offer therapy for clients located in: California, New Mexico, New York, South Carolina, Massachusetts, Maine, Rhode Island and Utah.

  • Standard sessions are 50 minutes long. EMDR processing sessions may be 90-120 minutes in length. Some clients prefer to regularly meet for 90 or 120 minutes, which we can discuss at any time in your treatment.

  • Please reach out to me on my contact page so that we can coordinate a free 15-minute phone or Zoom consultation. During the consultation, we will have an opportunity to learn more about what has brought you to therapy and learn about your goals in therapy. I will be able to answer any questions you may have and we can determine if I may be a strong fit for your therapeutic needs and goals.

  • Before we meet, some clients like to review and consider the following questions, to support making the most out of our consultation time and to help guide our conversation:

What are you hoping to achieve in therapy, i.e. what are your current and future goals? What have you tried in the past (both in therapy and outside of therapy) and what has been helpful and unhelpful? What information is helpful to know from me, i.e. clarity regarding my approach, scheduling formats, any telehealth/Zoom concerns, financial questions, etc.?

These questions are offered as a guide to help you develop a sense of what is helpful for you during our time. We can, of course, discuss other areas and questions you may have. Please feel free to take notes during your consultation, so that you may review later on.

  • I ask for 24 hours of cancellation. You may notify me about a cancellation via email, phone call, or text. I do offer a one-time waiver of the cancellation fee, due to unforeseen circumstances that may require you to cancel with less than 24 hours notice.

  • Once we have confirmed an initial session date, I will email you directly from my electronic health record system (EHR), called Simple Practice. You will receive an email from Simple Practice which will prompt you to complete some standard intake paperwork forms, which you will complete electronically. Once the paperwork has been completed, I will send you the Zoom link for your first, and ongoing, sessions.

  • In a first session, I will first review all of the intake paperwork/documents that you completed, to ensure that all information is clear and that you in agreement with my office policies and procedures.

We will then discuss what has brought you to therapy, what symptoms/behaviors you are concerned about, and clarify your goals in therapy. If we have time after that, we will start preparation for treatment, depending on what your goals and preferred treatment modalities are.

  • I typically work with teens up to older adults, on an individual basis. I do not treat children, couples, or families at this time. I welcome and support clients identifying as neurodivergent and consider myself and my clinical practice to be informed and in alliance with LGBTQIA+ folx and the BIPOC community.

  • My approach is trauma-informed and focused. I often implement EMDR and IFS treatment modalities. I do offer more traditional talk therapy, primarily from psychodynamic and narrative approaches, which are often blended into EMDR and IFS frameworks.

  • My clients typically meet on a weekly basis but some choose to meet every other week. As you meet your goals in therapy, we may discuss meeting every 3 weeks, monthly, or as needed, for maintenance.

  • This question depends on many factors, including your treatment goals and your trauma history. Many clients find relief within 1-3 months of treatment and may remain in therapy for 6 months to 1 year or longer. Some clients engage only with EMDR, which typically can be effective quite quickly, and complete their goals within 1-3 months. Others have past histories and challenges that necessitate more time in therapy to fully address, as well as present day stressors they may wish to process and receive support with. We will discuss during your consultation and first session what your goals are and I may be able to give you a better understanding of how much time it may take to reach your goals.

  • In January 2022, the Federal government passed a law called the “No Surprises Act”, which grants you the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” of the expected costs of a medical or mental health related service.

Per the law, you will be provided a Good Faith Estimate before your first therapy session.

The Good Faith Estimate explains your therapist’s rate for each service provided. Due to the collaborative approach I take with your mental health treatment, we will explore throughout your treatment to determine how many sessions and/or services you may need to receive the greatest benefit based on your diagnosis(es)/presenting clinical concerns.
